CATCH MORE STRIPERS WHEN CASTING FROM JETTIES

THE FIRST THING BEFORE VENTURING ONTO A ROCK JETTIE IS SAFETY. THE ROCKS CAN BECOME VERY VERY SLIPPERY OVER TIME FROM TIDES RISING AND FALLING OVER THE ROCKS. THIS WILL CREATE AN ALGIE BUILD UP AND BECOME VERY TREACHEROUS. TO AVOID A MAJOR INJURY YOU SHOULD INVEST IN A PAIR OF KORKERS AS SHOWN BELOW. A PAIR OF GOLF SHOES WITH SPIKES WILL WORK AS A SUBSTITUTE. THE METAL SPIKES GRIP THE ROCKS AND KEEP YOUR TRACTION IN CHECK. ALWAYS BE SAFE.
JETTIES ARE STRIPER MAGNETS. PICK ONE AND FISH IT HARD. I USUALLY HAVE MY BEST SUCCESS AT THE TIP OF THE JETTIES FISHING THE RIP CURRENT. THE BAIT FISH GET CAUGHT IN THE RIP CURRENT AND THE STRIPERS ARE WAITING TO AMBUSH THEM. ALWAYS TRY TO MATCH YOUR LURE TO THE SIZE OF BAIT STRIPERS ARE FEEDING ON. THIS DOES NOT "ALWAYS" MATTER BUT WILL INCREASE YOUR CATCH RATE. ANOTHER CASTING LOCATION IS EITHER SIDE OF THE JETTIE NEAR THE HEAD OR TIP OF THE JETTIE. BAIT FISH WILL TRY AND HIDE NEAR THE ROCKS AND OR FEEDING ON ALGAE AND PLANKTON, STRIPERS KNOW THIS AND ARE THERE LOOKING FOR THEM.
TIMES OF THE DAY SUCH AS DUSK AND DAWN ARE YOUR BEST BETS. AT DAWN BEFORE SUNRISE I USUALLY CAST IN SHALLOW WATER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE JETTIE BEFORE I VENTURE OUT TO THE END. OFTEN TIMES I PICK A FEW UP IN THE SHALLOWS NEAR SHORE. AFTER SUNRISE I HEAD OUT TO THE END AND FISH THE DEEPER WATER. STRIPERS DO NOT HAVE EYELIDS AND AS A STANDARD RULE (NOT ALWAYS) HEAD FOR DEEPER WATER COME SUNRISE. ON OVERCAST DAYS THEY WILL REMAIN SHALLOW LONGER. BELOW ARE A FEW OF THE LURES I USE TO TARGET STRIPERS FROM JETTIES.
TOP LEFT TO RIGHT: 1/4OZ BULLET HEAD JIG, 3/8OZ BUCKTAIL GREEN/WHITE, 1/2OZ SWIM SHAD (BEST PRODUCER)
BOTTOM LEFT TO RIGHT: 1/4OZ CALCUTTA JERK SHAD, MIRROR LURE FLOATING, MIRROR LURE SINKING, 3" SHALLOW SWIMMING BOMBER AKA SCHOOLBUS(BEST PRODUCER), 5" WIND CHEATER, 7" ALL BLACK BOMBER SHALLOW SWIMMER (BEST AT NITE)
